Public Art

Guitar Project
Rockwall’s guitars have been unveiled! It seems only fitting that the long-awaited reveal took place at the summer’s final Concert by the Lake at The Harbor. The guitar project is a bold representation of the City of Rockwall’s place as the Free Live Music Capital of North Texas.

Funded by proceeds from the 2012 bond election, the public art project has been carefully overseen by the Rockwall Art Commission. Five local artists have spent months creating just the right art to represent Rockwall in all its beauty. The creators were on hand at the unveiling to showcase their guitars, while a crowd of thousands cheered.

Look for the unique 5-foot guitars very soon at The Harbor, City Hall, San Jacinto Plaza, Cain’s Corner Park and Harry Myers Park.

Susie Varner is primarily a western and landscape artist that paints in realism. Susie attended West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas but life took a different path with children, family, horses and an extended hiatus. Susie once again found herself  painting in 2012 and making up for lost time. She is First Vice President of the Rockwall Art League, a member of Academy of Western Artists and has illustrated a few Postal Exam books. Susie considers herself mostly self-taught and loves to try new forms of art. Painting the fiberglass guitars for the City of Rockwall was a huge but rewarding challenge!
