Texas Night Out
Tues, Oct 5, 2010 7pm-9pm
Texas Night Out is in conjuction with National Night Out. Residents throughout the City of Rockwall are asked to lock their doors, turn out the outside light and spend an evening outside with their neighbors and police. Many neighborhoods throughout the City of Rockwall will be hosting a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, flashlight walsk and various youth activities. This year's theme is a canned food drive for Rockwall County Helping Hands. We would like to encourage each household to bring one canned food item to their event and a Rockwall police officer will collect the canned goods that evening.

For information on any of these events, please contact officer Jay Shippy or Sgt Jeff Welch at (972) 771-7765

A Safe Return of Old Drugs
Rockwall police, on September 25, are partnering with the Drug Enforcement Agency for the National Take Back Initiative. Residents will have the opportunity to surrender their potentially dangerous pharmaceutical controlled substances for proper destruction at a safe collection site.

From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. bring expired, unwanted or unused over the counter or prescribed pharmaceutical medications to the Rockwall Police Department John Fitzwater Sr. Community Services Office at 1113 Ridge Road for safe destruction.

This program not only brings focus to the issue of pharmaceutical substance abuse, but it also helps provide a safer community by taking these medications out of the hands of children, as well as protecting the water supply where most of these medications are disposed of by flushing them away, said Rockwall Chief Mark Moeller.

The Rockwall Police Department Joins the National Crime Map.Citizens now have free access to official, timely crime data through CrimeReports.com.

False Alarm Update

Historically, the City of Rockwall has experienced an increasing number of false alarms requiring a response from the City’s public safety departments.  To reduce false alarms, the City has amended its False Alarm ordinance.  Reducing the number of false alarms Police and Fire Departments respond to each year will allow public safety personnel to devote more resources to keeping the community safe.

The amended ordinance requires a non-refundable annual registration fee of $30.00 for residential alarm systems and $50.00 for commercial alarm systems as of January 1, 2009. If a residence or business currently has an alarm permit on file, payment of the registration fee is due on the anniversary date in 2009.

An alarm system may consist of one or multiple types of alarms including burglary, robbery, security or fire.  A separate permit will be required for each street address and security/fire alarm system.  Each false alarm occurring after the third false alarm, within a 12 month period, is a violation of the ordinance.  Failure to register an alarm system could result in a fine.  False alarms may indicate that the alarm system is not functioning properly, may not be reliable or there may be a need for training of family members or employees.

Home and business owners can register their security or fire alarm by visiting the following link:
Alarm Registration

Registration forms are available at City Hall, located at 385 S. Goliad, or the Rockwall Police Department, located at 205 W. Rusk.
