Animal Services Welcomes You
To Rockwall

The City of Rockwall Animal Services Department wants to extend a special welcome to you and your
pet(s) to Rockwall. As a resident of Rockwall, please take a few minutes to review the information listed below. Also, please note the following regulations are enforced.

1. All dogs and cats must have either a 1 year or 3 year rabies vaccination.

2. All dogs and cats must be registered based on the
1 year or 3 year rabies vaccination. City Registrations expire one year or three years from the issue date. You may register your dog and or cat at City Hall, 385 S. Goliad; at the Animal Adoption Center at 1825 Airport Road, or by mail. See Animal Registration for more information.

3. All dogs must have both City Registration and rabies tags displayed on the collar. City tags for cats are not required on the collar.

4. The city has a leash law; Sec.5-18. Running at large.

5. The city has a Tethering law; Sec.5-33. Dog Tethering.

6. The city has an animal noise ordinance. Sec.5-21 states: “It shall be considered unlawful and a public nuisance to keep any animals which, by causing frequent or long continued barking or noise shall disturb any persons of ordinary sensibilities in the vicinities.

7. The city has an animal limit. On lots of less than (5) acres, you may have four (4) total, but only three of the same species. On lots (5) acres or more you can have (8) in any combination.

8. The city offers a low cost shot clinic twice a year. Please call the Animal Services for more details.

Saturday from 9:00am-4:00pm.


The shelter is staffed and open to the public from 9:00a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays. The Animal Adoption Center is located at 1825 Airport Road.

Volunteer Program Announcement

The Animal Services and Adoption Center is pleased to announce the kick off of our new volunteer program.  Volunteer opportunities will include jobs in administrative support, animal grooming, animal attendance, adoption assistance, as well as education and special events. 

Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older. In addition, Junior and Youth Volunteers will be allowed to participate with certain restrictions. All volunteers will need to fill out an application, as well as attend an orientation program prior to serving as a volunteer.

All applications can be mailed or may be brought into the Animal Adoption Center at 1825 Airport Rd. Rockwall, Texas 75087.


Registrations are available on a one year or three year basis depending on the vaccination given.

One year fees are $5.00 for neutered and
$20.00 for un-neutered.
Three year fees are $15.00 for neutered and
$30.00 for un-neutered.

To acquire a City tag, you must show proof of current rabies vaccination. Three year tags can only be issued if a three year vaccination was given. All dogs are required to display a current City registration and rabies tag. You may register your pet in person at:
385 S Goliad or 1825 Airport Rd.

Humane Traps
The Animal Services Department will lend you a wire cage to capture nuisance and nocturnal critters. We will lend you a trap to capture skunks, squirrels, raccoons, opossum, armadillos, and FERAL cats, etc. Someone must be present for the trap to be delivered. Once you call and tell us the animal is in the trap we will pick the trap up. This is a free service to the citizens of the City of Rockwall.
